When the COVID-19 pandemic struck in early 2020, Dr. Lee decided to take Reishi mushroom supplements to strengthen immune system and reduce risk of infection. Reishi, also known as Ganoderma lucidum, is a plant well known for its immune boosting properties across Asia, including Korea. She found many different Reishi supplements in the market, however, she didn’t know which sources to trust. So she began to brew her own Reishi tea for herself and her family–many of whom work in healthcare, with the hope that the tea would prevent them from falling sick. After a few weeks of drinking Reishi tea, Dr. Lee noticed improvements in her joint pain and heart palpitations that had plagued her for years. At the same time, her sister noted the tea’s positive effects on her longstanding insomnia. For the first time in over a decade, she was able to fall asleep without the help of prescription medications.

Realizing the immense potential for their serendipitous findings, the two sisters set out to experiment with several other herbs that they hoped would control the menopausal symptoms including hot flashes and night sweats they were experiencing. In the meantime, they also tried several reputable Reishi mushroom products in the market, but these did not have the same effect as their tea. The sisters tested multiple other commercially available menopause support products which were only marginally effective for their symptoms.
